Tom Jones… not my usual taste, but thought it would be a good night so booked tickets to see him on 18/10/2009.

I also learnt that it was the ‘opening’ gig of the new LG Arena.

Saying he’s not my ‘usual’ taste, I have always liked a few of his songs. He encompased everything from stripped-down country versions of Green Green Grass of Home, to a rocked up Delilah and the dance beat of Stoned In Love, Jones rolled back the years to offer something for everyone.

The LG Arena itself seemed like it will be a very good venue, it’s size is just about right ( I like to be able to actually see the act without relying on the screens!). It is a ultra-modern venue, spacious entrance hall, and looked like it had decent food bars and coffee shops, it reminded me of an airport departure lounge (which is apt considering it’s attached to Birmingham International Airport!).

Tom Jones performed songs from his new album 24 Hours, as well as the ever popular Sex Bomb, You Can Leave Your Hat On, while Kiss and It’s Not Unusual brought the rapt audience to their feet.

I think despite his age (now 69) and looking a little greyer, Jones has lots left to give, and his personality still shines as bright as one of his trademark suits.

So… We really enjoyed it, and would consider going to see him again.
